چکیده

Thraustochytrium striatum was selected as a model protist to test the possibility of granulation for its good potential organic waste valorization. Initially, only selective settling velocity 9 m h−1 applied in sequential batch reactor (SBR) with minimal progress after three months. After famine condition introduced into SBR feast-to-famine duration ratio 0.2 by extending cycle time and lowering initial substrate concentration while keeping unchanged, granules spherical shape smooth surface formed were dominated another month. The average particle size 728 μm, 90 times greater than planktonic counterpart. This study evidenced culture-independent phenomenon aerobic granulation. Also, combination low found be required inducing successful

Fundamental and application of aerobic granulation technology for wastewater treatment

Biogranulation has been studied widely and successfully industrialized for the last two decades. Biogranulation technology for wastewater treatment includes anaerobic and aerobic granulation processes. Even though anaerobic granulation has been relatively well studied and known, studies on aerobic granulation have begun recently. The aerobic granular sludge is known to have denser and stronger ...

Influence of Calcium, Magnesium, and Iron Ions on Aerobic Granulation

In this study, we investigated the effect of different multivalent cations on granule formation. Previous experiments showed that formation of matrix EPS and their structure depend of the presence of divalent cations. This study indicates that trivalent cations are also playing an important role. However, the more compact granules were formed in the presence of all cations. The authors tried al...

Enhanced aerobic nitrifying granulation by static magnetic field.

One of the main challenging issues for aerobic nitrifying granules in treating high strength ammonia wastewater is the long granulation time required for activated sludge to transform into aerobic granules. The present study provides a novel strategy for enhancing aerobic nitrifying granulation by applying an intensity of 48.0mT static magnetic field. The element analysis showed that the applie...

Aerobic Sludge Granulation in a Full-Scale Sequencing Batch Reactor

Aerobic granulation of activated sludge was successfully achieved in a full-scale sequencing batch reactor (SBR) with 50,000 m(3) d(-1) for treating a town's wastewater. After operation for 337 days, in this full-scale SBR, aerobic granules with an average SVI30 of 47.1 mL g(-1), diameter of 0.5 mm, and settling velocity of 42 m h(-1) were obtained. Compared to an anaerobic/oxic plug flow (A/O)...

A proposed aerobic granules size development scheme for aerobic granulation process.

Aerobic granulation is increasingly used in wastewater treatment due to its unique physical properties and microbial functionalities. Granule size defines the physical properties of granules based on biomass accumulation. This study aims to determine the profile of size development under two physicochemical conditions. Two identical bioreactors namely Rnp and Rp were operated under non-phototro...
